Silver Week

AKA one more long holiday when all my friends leave town and I sprawl around my apartment searching for eccentric ways to pass the time but always end up doing the same things: reading, looking up weird things on the internet, jacking off, trying on clothes, eating random things one at a time from the fridge. Got this sweater for a dollar at a garage sale this summer. Got that moyashi for 39 yen.
Broke in Tokyo, my cheap diet consists of natto, eggs, onions, moyashi, cucumbers, alcohol, and the school lunch I have to eat at work (which is tasty, in Japan). My cheap activities consist of strutting aimlessly around the city, drinking canned beer outdoors with friends, unreasonable amounts of sex, annoying my roommate with bad philosophy/literature lectures, and wishing I could afford both whiskey and hair conditioner. Thinking of moving to Japan? This could be you!

You look super pretty!
Yay, Moyashi! My silver week has been the exact same except that I bought a bike and visited a haunted love hotel.

Have you ever tried a Korean alcohol called Makkori? DOOO IIITTT. So cheap and delicious. Looks like milk. Tastes like rice. Shake it before you drink it.

Also, come to Kansai.

Verification word: mogri

Thank god so many things in this country are free- and that they don`t kick you out of bookstores (or coffee shops) even if you stand and read a whole book or magazine!

After some free food? Try department store basements!

I was once a very poor student in this country- it was the best year of my life! Wait- should maybe I should change that and say this year is the best year of my life since I got married and am having a kid...nah, that year I was a student here was way cooler!

julie - HAUNTED LOVE HOTEL i'm soooo jealous! i had a guy tell me the hotel we were in was haunted once but i'm pretty sure he was lying, but it was okay because ghost stories are the best thing ever.

i can't wait to try that drink, i've never heard of it! sounds deliciousssss

lulu, haha. i stopped buying magazines as soon as i realized i could go read them for free. it sucks when they have free stuff in them though because then you can't open them, AND because i wish i could afford to have the magazine and free stuff...

whitney - you're married and there's no reason for you to have bad sex again, that makes me shake my fist. I WANT A SKI LODGE GETAWAY! also i found some videos of you at my beach house birthday winning marco polo and being the worst pole dancer ever, they are so rad

I <3 your style, that sweater and all the outfits u rocked so far.

P.s. did living in japan help you lose weight? Cause I'm trying to study abroad there, and someone mentioned that.

Beth said...

rachel - yes, it has. it doesn't have to, because there is plenty of unhealthy delicious japanese food to eat, but it's not shoved in your face all the time like in america. you have way more chances to eat healthy and to exercise naturally. i basically watch the rice, and with so much less bread it means my carbs go way down, and i never take the escalator or elevator, so i take a ton of stairs every day. i haven't lost tons of weight like i want to but since i've taken alcohol off that cheap diet list for the time being, it's starting to fly off.

Amazing sweater! Has anyone told you that you look like Kate Nash in this photo?

That's a good thing, by the way. xD

Beth said...

thanks! i'm so into that sweater right now i have to give myself a stern lecture every morning to make myself wear other things. do not want to be known as the girl in the big yellow sweater. do i? maybe. i'll think about it.
